The United States Provides 50 Ventilators to Kosovo to Respond to COVID-19, 25 August, 2020
The United States Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has donated 50 brand-new, state-of-the-art ventilators to Kosovo to assist its fight against COVID-19. The donation delivers on President Trump’s generous offer of these critically needed supplies and supports Kosovo’s urgent response to the pandemic.
The Vyaire ventilators, produced in the United States, reflect cutting-edge and in-demand technology. They are compact and provide Kosovo with flexibility in treating patients affected by the virus. For patients whose lungs are not working adequately despite receiving oxygen, this vital resource may prove lifesaving.
“In response to Kosovo’s need for more medical equipment, the United States is donating 50 brand-new, state-of-the-art ventilators. This expression of our U.S.-Kosovo partnership is also a great example of the coupling of American generosity and the innovation of the American private industry. We hope that these medical devices will enable health providers across Kosovo to save more lives,” said Ambassador Philip Kosnett.
In addition to the ventilators, USAID is funding a support package that includes accompanying equipment, installation, warranties, service plans, and online webinars. The webinars were developed in cooperation with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and will assist Kosovo health practitioners on how to operate these specific ventilators. This donation builds on the $1.6 million the U.S. State Department and USAID have committed to Kosovo in response to the pandemic to provide operational support and increase Kosovo’s response capability to stop further transmission and mitigate COVID-19’s impact.
