Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo (December 12, 2022)

Location: The north of Kosovo (North Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok, and Zvecan)

Event: Given several recent security incidents in the north of Kosovo, the U.S. Embassy wishes to remind U.S. citizens that the current travel advisory for the region is Level 3, Reconsider Travel.  The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in the north of Kosovo as U.S. government employee travel to North Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok, and Zvecan is restricted.  The full travel advisory can be found at:

The embassy encourages U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and to avoid demonstrations, as even those intended to be peaceful could escalate and turn confrontational.


Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid the area (North Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan).
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety..
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Review your personal security plans.
