The Community College Initiative Program (CCI)
The Community College Initiative Program (CCI) provides participants from underserved and underrepresented groups with a one-year non-degree academic program at a U.S. community college. The CCI Program builds participants’ technical skills applied fields, enhances their leadership capabilities, and strengthens their English language proficiency. The program also provides opportunities for professional internships, service learning, and community engagement activities that build mutual understanding through immersion in the culture and day-to-day life of the United States.
The CCI Program would provide participants from Kosovo’s rural municipalities of Klina, Malisheva, Rahovec, and Suhareka, with one academic year of study at a U.S. host community college in digital media and communications with a focus on media literacy and countering disinformation. The program will combine theory with applied skills. CCI participants will complete academic coursework, pursue professional certificates when possible, and build hands-on professional experience through internships with local businesses and organizations.
CCI participants will also have opportunities to enhance their English language skills and complete an internship that will develop their professional skill sets and position them for future employment. As CCI alumni return to their home communities with the skills, knowledge and confidence gained on program, they will play pivotal roles in sharing American values, promoting fact-based means of consuming and delivering information, and supporting efforts to counter misinformation and disinformation in their communities.
