December is always a good time to look back and review the year we’re bidding farewell to, and this past one recorded significant achievements.
Kosovo went through peaceful elections and transition to a new government; witnessed Kosovo as a top ten reformer in the World Bank Doing Business report; integrated Kosovo’s courts; and soon, the commercial close of Kosovo’s largest ever private investment that will make reliable energy possible. These are all impressive results. But we must continue on the reform path, there is still more to be done to ensure Kosovo moves forward on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
Today’s signing ceremony commits us to just that: shared work to be done in 2018. This grant agreement adds over $30 million for USAID activities that are addressing Kosovo’s priority development challenges: advancing the rule of law and good governance, growing a diverse economy that creates investment and jobs, and empowering young Kosovars with the academic and professional skills to be the next generation of Kosovo’s leaders.
The Development partnership between the United States and Republic of Kosovo is strong. It reflects nearly two decades of working together to create a better life and a brighter future, for the citizens of Kosovo. The United States remains steadfast in its commitments and we look forward to our continued partnership.
