Ambassador Delawie visits New U.S. Embassy Pristina Compound

Ambassador Delawie visits New U.S. Embassy Pristina Compound, 25 August, 2017

Hi everyone! As you can see, I’m here at our New Embassy Compound, checking in on the progress. I know many of you are curious to find out more about the new building, so let’s check it out!

The first thing to notice is that the building has now reached its highest point; so we have completed a major milestone.

You can’t tell quite yet, but this area will be the entrance to the consular section, where American citizens will apply for passports and Kosovo citizens will apply for visas.  When the new Embassy opens, we will offer full visa services- so no more trips to Skopje!

We’ll have a fantastic view over the city to the mountains and landscaping that will bring in aspects of Kosovo’s beautiful geography.

Harvesting daylight and capturing rain water are just two of the ways this building will be environmentally-friendly.

The outside of the building will be covered with Kosovo-sourced stone, like this.

Inside the building, our exhibit created by the Art in Embassies Program will be a permanent art collection that will celebrate the cultural connections between Kosovo and the United States, and feature Kosovar artists.

We are excited to move into this truly incredible building when it is finished in 2018.

This new Embassy is the perfect representation of the strength of the U.S. commitment to Kosovo. We will continue to do all we can to support Kosovo at this critical time in its history to make improvements to the rule of law, develop the economy and improve regional security.

As we approach Kosovo’s tenth Independence Day, this building shows the United States is here to stay in Kosovo.

We will update our Facebook page and Embassy website as our building makes progress, so please check back often.
